Smoke Alarm Safety

You cannot mistake the sound of a smoke alarm. They are super loud and randomly go off from time to time without reason. Before you get too aggravated, learn to appreciate that almost invisible gadget up on the ceiling. The risk of dying in a home fire is cut in half in homes with working smoke alarms. Investing between $10 and $100 per unit can literally be a lifesaver, but you must invest a little time to maintain them. Overall, three-quarters of all U.S. homes have at least one working smoke alarm. In 2005–2009, almost two-thirds of home fire deaths resulted from home fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms. Types of Smoke Alarms The difference between smoke alarms’ and smoke detectors’ technology is substantial. Basic smoke alarms detect smoke then sound the alarm from the smoke alarm unit.
